Red Light District Amsterdam

At some point during your stay in Amsterdam you will want to wander over to the "Rosse Buurt" - the most famous Red Light District in the world. Even if you have no intention of engaging in the trade of the district, it is fascinating to see window after window filled with women, dressed in lingerie, watching television or reading a magazine while they wait for customers. Prostitution is legal here, and employees are regulated and undergo regular medical reviews. Sex shops, nightclubs featuring live sex shows, and even a couple of museums where you can study the subject matter, are wedged between the windows. During the day you can take a tour of the district where you will meet a former sex worker, learn the history of the red light district and get some understanding of the intricacies of the business of pleasure. After dark, you will find a number of excellent restaurants and nightclubs in this neighborhood. Stick to the main streets - always crowded with locals and tourists alike - and you will be fine.
