Chicago Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry will be a highlight of your visit to the city of Chicago. Over 160 million visitors have experienced the Museum, placing it among seven of the most visited museums in the United States. It is the oldest science Museum of its kind in the Western Hemisphere, and the first in North America to develop the idea of hands-on, interactive exhibits. At the main entrance of the museum stands the impressive Pioneer Zephyr, a 1930's vintage train that broke speed records in 1934. That's not the only history that you can walk through. The U-505, the only German submarine to be captured in World War II is also on display.

But the museum is much more than history. It is at its best in the industry and technology exhibits. Every aspect of the Museum is "hands on". There are enough buttons, levers and cranks to keep even the most active child interested and engaged. On the other hand, there are a few exhibits that demand that you just sit back and enjoy. The chick hatchery is always fascinating; baby chicks breaking out of their eggs under a dome that keeps them safe from overly curious onlookers. Plan a day for a visit; then plan your visit. It is not possible to see the entire Museum in one day, but you and your family will leave with memories and knowledge to last you for a lifetime.
