There is nothing stuffy about Dublin. Here you've made friends even before you've made introductions. This is a young vibrant city - respectful and proud of its past but not stuck to it. Dublin is becoming a world renowned technology center and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. Most of the hotels in Dublin are located downtown within walking distance of the city's major attractions and nightlife. Although if you prefer, you can book a Dublin hotel on the main route to the airport.
There are several historic buildings throughout the city which merit attention, beginning with Dublin Castle and the buildings which surround it. The ancient Christ Church Cathedral, the 18th-century architecture of Merrion Square, and Trinity College shouldn't be missed either.
Like all great cities, Dublin has its museums. But few cities match Dublin in the sheer number and variety: The National Museum, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery, the Dublin Writers Museum and the Hugh Lane Gallery are probably the most important. But you don't want to miss the Guinness Storehouse - especially since your tour ends with a pint of the brewery's best.
For years Dublin has been famous for its pubs, but these days you're just as likely to spend the evening with friends visiting some of the great clubs that are opening in the city. For a non-stop party, head over to Temple Bar. No, that's not a pub - it's the principle nightlife district; full of bars, restaurants and nightclubs. Some of the best known Irish musical names once played here. And Dublin knows its music. Take your pick - from traditional folk music, to the latest pop with some fairly eclectic stuff somewhere in between. Dublin's music scene is still one of the best.
Looking to walk off last night's excesses? Phoenix Park, Europe's largest public park, extends about 5 km (3 mi) along the Liffey River's north bank. Lawns, woods and lakes give you plenty of room to roam. The Dublin Zoo, founded in 1830, is home to a different kind of Dublin wildlife. Currently undergoing a major renovation, the zoo is one of the few places in the world where lions will breed in captivity.
Culture, music, history, nightlife, and nature. Dublin not only has it all - it serves it up with genuine warmth and contagious enthusiasm.
