Germany is an ideal tourist destination. Picture perfect postcard views, gleaming cities brimming with culture and nightlife, winding roads that beg for bicycles, year-round festivals and enough order to keep the trains running on time, combine to promise a great weekend getaway or an extended holiday. Hotels in Germany range from the quaint to the some of the finest examples of self-indulgence you will ever find. You can easily find a hotel in Germany that will perfectly suit your plans and your pocketbook.
There are so many ways to view Germany. The old distinction of east and west is fading fast, but the country's regions are still clearly defined - and not just by geography. Each one offers its own unique foods, dress, dialect and character. Perhaps the greatest distinctions can be seen between Germany's modern cities and her more picturesque country side. The spirit of excellence and precision for which the German's are so well known has driven them to build some of the finest cities in the world. Centers of commerce, industry and technology; they still serve up generous portions of culture, history and activity.
Smaller cities and towns provide large helpings of history and culture as well, but they also have a sense of intimacy and hospitality that is difficult to maintain in a metropolis. Tying it all together is the beautiful German countryside, complete with castles and vineyards along the Rhine, and the timber-framed structures that mark the Black Forest and Bavaria.
But don't get too caught up in the fairytale world of the south. This is still Germany -clean, orderly, progressive, efficient Germany. The roads are legendary, the rail system can deliver you to your next destination with a minimum of fuss and there is always something new to captivate even the most seasoned traveler.
It would be wise to plan your trip around some of the country's legendary festivals. Of course everyone knows about Oktoberfest, the most "touristy" of the year's events. Autumn also provides the backdrop for Rhine in Flames, a celebration of nature's annual show of color, topped off with fireworks. When the weather turns colder the Winter Carnival begins throughout much of the country. Nobody celebrates Christmas quite like Germany, and a variety of Christmas fairs give families and tourists plenty of ways to celebrate. Warmer temperatures bring out the musicians for music festivals celebrating famed sons and favorite styles.
