Hong Kong Districts

Hong Kong is a major metropolitan city that has a number of fascinating attractions scattered from one end of the metropolis to the other. Before wandering out of your Hong Kong hotel, you should have some idea of the general layout of the city and what each district has to offer.

Hong Kong began on Hong Kong Island. The area was originally dubbed "Victoria" by early British colonists and became the central financial and business district of the city. Now the Central District is the nerve center of the city. Don't come looking for reminders of colonialism. What you will find will be excellent architecture, high-rise office buildings, designer boutiques, great restaurants and fabulous nightclubs. Most of the better clubs and eateries are within the district known as Lan Kwai Fong. There are still a few reminders of old Hong Kong in "Central", as it is known. Rickety old trams still lumber past outdoor markets, traditional Chinese restaurants and family-owned businesses.
