Hong Kong Museum of History

It would be wise to visit the Hong Kong Museum of History early in your visit to the city of Hong Kong. Spending a few hours here will help you understand more of what you will see during the rest of your trip. A new museum (opened in 2001), it may very well be the best in the city. The museum showcases Hong Kong's broad and dynamic history, beginning with the Neolithic ages, passing through its development as a fishing colony and the ultimate rise to major metropolis. Here you will see replicas and reconstructions of all aspects of life in Hong Kong. Peek into a fishing boat, stand backstage at the opera and return to the ancient walled city of Kowloon. See how the arrival of Europeans and the ravages of war influenced the city. Great efforts have been made in collecting, conserving, processing, studying and displaying a number of cultural objects which are related to the archaeology and natural history of Hong Kong and South China. The museum also presents a number of fascinating temporary exhibitions.
