Rome Hotels

Rome is probably the most important city in Western Culture. The streets and sights are positively alive with culture, and after a few days of exploring the city visitors often become overwhelmed with how much influence that the history of Rome has had on civilization.

Hotels in Rome are plentiful, and it is advisable to have your Rome hotel marked on a map prior to arriving in the city to avoid getting lost. Instead of staying in a hotel in Rome, Vatican City is also an area to consider. This is still a part of Rome, but if a major part of your trip will be exploring the Vatican and Sistine Chapel, this might be a wise choice of neighbourhoods.

To properly see the entire city, it is best to try and stay for the better part of a week. This will allow you to not only get a tourists view of what the city has to offer, it will also allow you the chance to relax and immerse yourself in the culture.

The Colosseum is one of Rome's most recognizable landmarks and should be on everyone's must-see list. The ancient walls of this structure are absolutely staggering, and it's easy to imagine Roman warriors fighting to the death amid crowds of spectators. Although the Colosseum is impressive enough viewing it alone, it is worth it to take a guided tour to learn how it functioned when it was in its prime. The Arch of Constantine, another Roman landmark, is located directly outside the walls of the Colosseum, so be sure to check this out as well.

The Vatican and Sistine chapel are a breathtaking example of religious art and architecture. Michelangelo's sculpture Pieta can be viewed inside, and if you're up to the climb you can go up to the top Michelangelo's dome for a bird's-eye view of the city. The Sistine Chapel is well worth the wait in line. The roof of the chapel depicts scenes from Genesis and was said to be so taxing on the eyes of Michelangelo during the four years it took to complete, that it ruined his eyesight permanently.

For a more relaxing evening, try dining on fresh pasta, pizza and fine wine in an outdoor patio. A visit to the Spanish steps, a stroll through the ruins of the Roman Forum, or a wish made in the Trevi Fountain are all perfect ways to end your day before heading back to your Rome hotel.
