Vienna Hotels

Without a doubt, Vienna stands as the musical capital of Europe. The culture and tradition of Vienna is more than a simple matter of history. It is a deeply bred characteristic of her proud but charming people. From the moment that you arrive at your Vienna hotel you will experience what the locals refer to as gemutlichkeit (coziness). Nowhere else in Europe are you so aware of a sense of warmth and friendly comfort. And you will experience it not only in the hotels in Vienna, but in her cafes and great halls as well.

There is an unhurried dignity to Vienna. Words like charm and grace still have meaning. This is a city where waiters bow, and residents pass the time over frothy cups of coffee as though they had no where else to be. But there is also a workman's determination here. This blend of discipline and values has given the world some of the greatest geniuses of music, art and architecture. You will sense that spirit as you enjoy the opulence of the city on many different levels.

The Hofburg (Imperial Palace) is a compelling example of culture and heritage. The Habsburgs ruled from here for more than six centuries. Additions and modifications over the years have added to its eclectic style. The 22 rooms in the Kaiserappartements (Imperial Apartments) are carefully appointed with fine furniture, tapestries and crystal chandeliers. The complex boasts a variety of museums: the Sammlung Alter Musikinstrumente (Collection of Ancient Musical Instruments), the Museum fur Volkerkunde (Ethnological Museum), and the Albertina, a well-known collection of graphic arts. The Gothic Burgkapelle (Royal Chapel) is where the Vienna Boys' Choir sings at Sunday Mass.

One of Vienna's most poular attractions is the Schloss Schonbrunn - a 2000-roomed baroque palace, complete with a classically landscaped garden. Additional attractions include a maze and the world's oldest zoo. A Viennese institution, the famed Lipizzaner stallions perform and equine ballet in the opulent surrounds of the Hofburg's Winter Riding School.

Of course, everything in Vienna does not revolve around the arts. A walk in the woods, a stroll along the river, or a visit to one of the ever-present cafes can provide will provide the same sense of serenity the residents of this beautiful city have been experiencing for generations.
